Mini Quilt

Image
I have finally done something with an EPP hexagon I made in Handstitched Class, original post  here  that was way back in October last year.  It was supposed to be put on a canvas as wall art but when I finished it I thought it was destined for something greater like a bag or a quilt made out of heaps of them. Since then I haven't made a single one so I don't think the quilt plan will ever happen. Then I did something a bit silly, well actually quite dumb. I took out all the basting stitches and paper templates, I think in the hopes of using them to make more blocks. So I have had this hexagon block sitting in my WIP box with its edges fraying and losing shape. I didn't know what it was going to be when I appliqued it onto some fabric and started hand quilting it, when I finished the hand quilting it sat there for a couple of weeks just waiting to be something so I ended up hand sewing on some binding so it would be finished. I am a massive self doubter, I d...

WARNING

Image
A brief warning our next bit of programing could possibly induce a toxic mix of stock and nostalgia as for why two words ROLLER DERBY! Thats right folks roller derby has taken over my life. I started in July and I havent looked back. I am still on my path to greatness but I can already see how it has changed me as a person. As I said it has taken over my life, I train twice a week, go to games on the weekends, I am thinking about it constantly, I listen to podcasts (the first sentence of this post was stolen from the viva la derby podcast intro) I go straight to training from work so I get there an hour early, this means I have a fair about of time for hand sewing. I have also made a couple of outfits for my self My favorite would have to be this skirt. Its a full circle skirt and I used a technique from Handstitched class to sew on the white bias binding. I have just overlocked the bottom in RED! I was supposed to hem it aswell but I was too excited and I had ...

English paper peicing

I finally finished taking the basting stitches out of my EPP hexi from handstitched class. I am as proud as punch. Now I just have to decide what to do with it. I was originally going to sew it onto a simple bag but now I am not too sure. I feel like I need a pretty heavy duty bag and I don't think I am experienced enough to make something like that. I really enjoyed the whole process so I am thinking of making of making a whole quilt of them. It will have to be scrappy because I used scraps for this one. I like scrap quilts because they are like a journey or all the quilts a person has made. I hope you have a great weekend. xxx ooo

Handstitched coaster sneak peak

Image
So I started my Sashiko coasters from Hand stitched class. I have only completed one but I really like it. I was a little down so I used the colours grey and yellow. That colour combo always make me think of sunshine sneaking through the clouds on a rainy day. The pattern reminds me of chicken wire. I will have to finish the others so I can use them. I have found a use for one coaster. It sits on my bed side table (or should I say bed side filing cabinet) and I put a glass on water on it at night. I quite like it and will have to make a whole set soon. Someone at work said we need coasters in the lab because there are coffee rings all over our desk. I thought about making these coasters for everyone but they are too pretty and I don't want people spilling coffee on my hard work. especially when I don't even drink the stuff.

Week 2!

Image
I am a little behind in Hand Stitched Class. I finished hand sewing the centre medallion. I redid it because I wasn't happy with my points and the size and spacing of my stitches. I couldn't get my points right the second time so I made a modification. I added the bubbles on the end. I am really happy with it. I haven't trimmed the yellow border yet because I want to have a little bit extra in case it frays when I'm doing my hand stitching on the white border. IMG_1731[1] , a photo by Shakey Stitches on Flickr. That brings me up to date on week one. I have only completed one project from week two so far. It's a head band. It was so quick so I will definitely be making more in many different colours and patterns. I like that the elastic makes it gather just a little bit. I have loved looking at everyones projects on the flickr group. There is some serious talent in this class!

Handstitched class!

Week one of Rachel's from stitched in color  handstitch class has come and gone. I loved it. Each week we do part of a quilt and a couple of single projects. I haven't done the quilt centre yet but I have finished the other projects. Needle book My needle book is actually an inch smaller than it should be because I wasn't paying enough attention when I was cutting the felt whoops! It is still big enough to hold my little scissors, a few needles and a bit of thread so I'm not worried. Flocked tank I love my top!!! I only bought a cheap top to practise on. It was on sale for $6 and when I went to pay it was only $2. Bargain! I really enjoyed the whole process. I put it on as soon as I finished the last stitch and I wore it out only to spill 'italian hot chocolate' down the front. I want to try a pair of pants next. I think it would look really good around the bottom of each leg. I will have to think about that more though.
